DAISY Award for RNs
UMC participates in The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a special program that rewards the outstanding efforts nurses perform everyday. Established by The DAISY Foundation (for the elimination of Diseases Attacking the Immune System) in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by his parents after they experienced firsthand the skills and compassionate caring of their son’s nurses, the award is given monthly to outstanding nurses in UMC.
Each month, a UMC nurse is selected by the hospital’s DAISY Award Committee to receive this special honor. The honoree will receive a beautiful African Shona Tribe sculpture entitled, "A Healer’s Touch," an award pin, a bouquet of daisies, a certificate of appreciation and cinnamon rolls to all nurses in the unit to thank them for all they do for patients and families. Patrick was a huge fan of cinnamon rolls, and while he was ill asked his parents to deliver them to his nurses as his way of saying "thanks for all that you do."
Any UMC nurse can be nominated by nurses and other staff as well as doctors, patients or family members. Please submit your nomination by the first of each month.
